6 45 Lotto

Because it is one of the Philippine games with the best odds of winning, 6 45 Lotto ranks among the most popular entries in the portfolio of the Philippine Charity Sweepstake Office (PCSO). Since there are only 45 numbers to choose among, the odds are much better than in other PCSO games like 6 49 Lotto, 6 55 Lotto, or 6 58 Lotto.

PCSO was set up back in 1934, and since the very beginning, its primary goal has been to organize lottery games and to use this opportunity for fund generation. Through the years, PCSO has supported numerous charitable causes with the funds generated through ticket sales.

6 45 Lotto was introduced in May 1997. Over the years, several changes have taken place. The number of drawings increased. Initially, playing the MegaLotto was less expensive. Eventually, the ticket prices increased but so did the minimum guaranteed jackpot. Through such modifications, the popularity of 6 45 Lotto has grown through the years. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

6 45 Lotto Rules

As the name suggests, this is a standard numerical lottery game. Players have to choose six numbers from a pool of 45 to claim the jackpot eventually. There are three MegaLotto drawings per week – on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

The drawings are televised and broadcast live at 9 p.m. on PTV4.

Single entry into the game costs 20 pesos. Players can also opt for system entries. A system of seven costs 140 pesos and the most expensive system is 12 numbers, costing 18,480 pesos. A system of 12, however, produces 924 numerical combinations. This means that the player has the chance to win multiple prizes.

Just like all other lottery games in the Philippines, 6 45 Lotto is available solely to players aged 18 or older. Tickets can be acquired from licensed PCSO retail venues throughout the country. At the time being, PCSO does not offer an online ticket buying option.

A player can choose the numbers that they prefer, or an automatic numerical combination can be generated at the retail venue at the time of the purchase.

6 45 Lotto Prizes

The Philippine 6 45 Lotto has a minimum guaranteed jackpot of nine million pesos (0.17 million US dollars). If there is no winner for the respective drawing, the sum will roll over towards the next one. This way, MegaLotto can eventually produce a pretty spectacular jackpot.

The odds of claiming the top prize are 1 in 8,145,060, which makes MegaLotto one of the most favorable Philippine games to play (apart from Lotto 6 42).

Other than the jackpot, there are three additional prize tiers. Please take a look at the chart to acquaint yourself with the maximum payout per each:

Prize Tier Numbers to Match Estimated Prize (₱)
Jackpot 6 Jackpot
2 5 50,000
3 4 1,500
4 3 20

6 45 Lotto is a pari-mutuel game. This means that the individual prize is determined by the number of people who have bought a ticket for the respective drawing and the number of winners in the prize tier. The sum allocated to this respective tier will be divided equally among all winners.

Over the years, MegaLotto has produced a couple of pretty hefty jackpots.

The biggest one on record is 98.65 million pesos (1.85 million dollars). The prize fell on October 6, 2015. PCSO gives players a chance to maintain their anonymity for security purposes. Thus, there’s no information about the identity of the winner.

In 2002, a Laguna resident won a 79-million-peso 6 45 Lotto jackpot. the lucky ticket was bought in Calamba. It’s also interesting to point out that during the same year, another Calamba resident bagged an 86-million-peso jackpot. Keep in mind that these two massive awards were won at a time when the MegaLotto minimum guaranteed jackpot was only 4.5 million pesos.

While these sums are impressive, they don’t come close to the largest ever jackpot in PCSO history. The sum was produced after multiple weeks with no  6 55 Lotto winner. Eventually, a single player won the spectacular amount of 741.17 million pesos.

Players have a couple of simple opportunities as far as prize claiming goes. Prizes of up to 5,000 pesos can be redeemed at any PCSO authorized venue. The payout is immediate.

Prizes from 5,001 to 20,000 pesos can be claimed at the PCSO representative branch offices throughout the Philippines. Larger amounts are to be cashed out at the main PCSO office.

In the past, the Philippines did not have an income tax on lottery prizes. The government, however, has carried out tax reforms to enhance budgetary fund collection. Since January 2018, all of the PCSO lottery awards are subjected to a 20 percent income tax.
